The Semi-Circular Bend (SCB) Test Fixture is used in Marshall Stability Load Frames to determine low-temperature fracture energy and toughness of asphalt mixtures with a maximum aggregate size of 19mm. Semicircular asphalt specimens are easily cut from Superpave Gyratory compacted cylinders or field cores with 150 mm diameter.

The Fixture features a 0.5in (12.7mm) thick steel base plate, two L-shaped roller support steel blocks, two steel rollers, and a U-shaped frame. It is mounted in a Marshall Load Frame.

A specimen is positioned on the two rollers and loaded along its vertical diameter. Load and displacement are measured to calculate test results. Polytetrafluoroethylene strips minimize friction of the loading fixture.
