Self-Consolidating Concrete Testing Equipment

Structures designed with congested reinforcing steel often require Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC) mix designs to ensure the structure is free of voids and honeycombing. The J-Ring test, in combination with the Slump-Flow test, are used together to determine the passing ability of SCC. Passing ability of SCC is defined as the ability of concrete to flow under its own weight to completely fill all spaces within the formwork.

SCC Passing Ability Set for J-Ring Testhas the components needed for this determination. The complete set contains the J-Ring, Modified Slump Cone, HDPE Strike-Off Bar, and Base Plate. Each product is also available for purchase individually as additional or replacement items.

For testing, a modified slump cone is positioned either inverted or upright in the middle of the J-Ring and filled with concrete in a single lift. The cone is then lifted straight up and the diameter of the resulting circular flow of concrete is measured. A second test is run without the J-Ring in place, and the difference in the flow diameters is recorded as the passing ability. Additional measurements or visual classifications may also be determined when the passing ability testing has been completed.

The Base Plate is inscribed with concentric circles for use when testing to determine slump flow of SCC in the lab or field.
